Lava Show Unveils Exclusive Glasses for Iceland's Total Solar Eclipse

On 12 August 2026, Iceland will witness one of the most extraordinary natural events of the decade: a total solar eclipse. For just under a minute, the Moon will completely cover the Sun, turning day into twilight and creating a breathtaking spectacle that has drawn visitors from around the world.

The excitement is already building.

With thousands of eclipse chasers travelling to Iceland for this rare event, Reykjavík is expected to welcome record numbers of visitors. At Lava Show, we're already seeing strong demand for shows around the eclipse, and we recommend booking well in advance to avoid disappointment.

Celebrating science with exclusive Lava Show eclipse glasses

As passionate science enthusiasts, we simply couldn't let this incredible event pass by without joining the celebration.

We've produced 2,000 pairs of exclusive Lava Show-branded solar eclipse glasses in collaboration with Sævar Helgi Bragason, Iceland's leading science communicator and one of the country's foremost astronomy experts. Sævar has been at the forefront of educating both Icelanders and international visitors about the 2026 eclipse and has played a key role in helping Iceland prepare for this once-in-a-lifetime event.

The glasses meet the required safety standards for direct solar observation, allowing you to experience the eclipse safely.

A special gift for Lava Show Premium guests

Starting 9 August, every guest attending Lava Show's Premium Experience in Reykjavík will receive a complimentary pair of Lava Show eclipse glasses while supplies last.

The Premium Experience already includes exclusive balcony seating, a welcome drink, access to the Premium Lounge, a behind-the-scenes look at our furnace room and a gift-wrapped piece of lava. The eclipse glasses make this unique experience even more memorable during one of Iceland's most remarkable weeks.

Perfectly located for eclipse viewing

Lava Show Reykjavík is ideally situated for visitors hoping to experience the eclipse.

Within just a few minutes' walk of our venue you'll find several outstanding viewing locations, including:

  • Þúfa (The Tussock), the iconic grass-covered art installation overlooking the harbour

  • Grótta, one of Reykjavík's most popular places to experience sunsets and astronomical events

  • The scenic waterfront surrounding the Grandi Harbour District

Whether you choose one of these locations or simply step outside our venue, you'll be perfectly placed to witness one of nature's greatest spectacles.

A Lava Show presenter demonstrates real molten lava flowing inside the showroom as guests watch from their seats, illuminated by the glow and heat of the lava while taking photos of the experience.

Guests watch in amazement as real molten lava flows at over 1,100°C (2,000°F) during the award-winning Lava Show, the only live lava show in the world.

Two unforgettable natural wonders in one day

Few places on Earth offer the opportunity to witness a total solar eclipse and real flowing lava on the same day.

After experiencing the eclipse outdoors, step inside Lava Show to feel the heat of molten lava heated to over 1,100°C (2,000°F) as it flows just metres away in the world's only live lava show.

It's a day that perfectly captures the extraordinary natural forces that make Iceland unlike anywhere else on Earth.

For everything you need to know about the eclipse—including timings, safety information and the best viewing advice—we recommend visiting eclipse2026.is, created by Sævar Helgi Bragason.

On 12 August, Iceland will offer one of the rarest experiences imaginable: the awe of a total solar eclipse followed by the unforgettable sight of real molten lava. We can't wait to share both with you.
